For me, one of the greatest things about working at TIME is the power of the brand itself. There have been many lists about the most iconic photos or the most important photos, but I set out to make a list leveraging the TIME brand, the award winning photo editors in my department and a group of reporters and editors to try to quantify the 100 Most Influential photos of all time. It was a long three year process which culminated into an award winning interactive website, twenty short documentaries, a book and a magazine. It was the most watched piece of content on TIME.com then anything else all year with TK million views. Most of the pictures on this list are familiar, but our goal was to contextualize them for a broad audience and shed as much new light and reporting as possible.
My favorite projects are the ones that bring together so much talent. This is one of them- from the Interactive designers and engineers in Seattle, to the great video producers, editors and reporters, I love creating the team, overseeing it and pushing everyone to the most ambitious places possible.
